I would like to introduce myself
My name is Ingrid Hollerman and I’ve been working for 8 years as a lactation consultant at De Baker. I also have extensive experience as a maternity nurse, and this experience has proven to be very convenient when guiding breastfeeding.
Breastfeeding is a natural process. Often, when babies are born, they instinctively are trying to find their mother’s breast. Sometimes this process doesn’t run as we’d like. With the help of the nurse and midwife this process is well monitored. However, more guidance may be needed and so it may be that I’ll be visiting you to guide you and your baby.
During this process I’ll focus on you and your baby. I’ll observe and will listen very carefully, your wishes are most important to me.
Breastfeeding is the best that you can give your baby, but the conditions must be such that it feels good for both mother and child. This will always be discussed in the first meeting and together we’ll find the best way to make sure your breastfeeding will succeed. We will monitor it and put up a schedule that works for you. Sometimes we need to be in contact more than once, and that’s fine. The care will only be ended when everything goes well and you’re ready to continue breastfeeding on your own.
I always pay close attention to the way you communicate with your baby. Breastfeeding is teamwork of you and your baby, so communication is very important. Even when babies are just a few days old, they understand much more than you think. If you’re feeling good and relaxed, your baby will be feeling like that too.
If you have any questions about breastfeeding during your postpartum period, always consult with the midwife or maternity nurse. Should you have more questions or if you would like me to be there to guide your breastfeeding, just let me know!
By the way, there doesn’t have to be a problem with breastfeeding. You might be insecure about breastfeeding and it can be nice to have some assurance.
That, too, is what my consultations are meant for. I am at your service!
